Harmony Development

The Colorado Front Range is known for mountainous views and natural beauty. Developers of Harmony created an upscale master planned community that blends this natural beauty with full-scale amenities.

Aqua Engineering provided irrigation and pumping system design services for Phases I and II of the open space area of the community. The challenges involved in designing an irrigation system for this site included areas where native seed and turf interface. Our engineers responded to these challenges by specifying separate valves for each area, allowing water to be distributed uniquely for turf and native sections.

Our engineers’ sustainable approach to this design features high efficiency rotors for the majority of the site and an irrigation system that can be used as a backup source for the golf course irrigation system. Additionally, our hydraulic models addressed varying elevations across the expansive area.

Raw water from an existing agricultural irrigation ditch provides the water source for the system. The design of two transfer pump facilities features an especially innovative element. The facilities are designed to provide the capability of moving irrigation water between the four on-site storage lakes, allowing the water to be ultimately transferred to one primary open space irrigation lake. The design of a recirculating pumping system brings water from one of the lakes to a small pool at a higher elevation, where water is returned to the lower lake via a nature cobble stream bed.
