New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company

In 2003, the New Cache La Poudre Irrigation Co. identified several projects that would help the century-plus year old company to better manage the Greeley #2 canal and the Company’s decrees on the Poudre River. The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) participated in a feasibility study and company shareholders were asked to vote on a phased improvement plan and strategy that ultimately received shareholder approval.

The Greeley #2 canal is approximately 45 miles in length with a service area of approximately 35,000 acres. A total of $8,000,000 in improvements is currently under way and funded through the CWCB’s loan program.

In 2004 and 2005, the company built an equalizer reservoir, a pumping station, and installed actuated gates operating under a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system on the east and lower end of the system. A new storage reservoir and improvements to the Windsor Lake (Kern Reservoir) outlet works are currently in the offing as well as other improvements.

Aqua Engineering has been involved either as a prime consultant or as a subconsultant in concept development, probable cost determination, design, and construction administration for the pump station, actuated gates, and SCADA elements of the project.
