Irrigation System Optimization Review

Aqua Engineering provided a comprehensive inventory and evaluation of three canal systems serving over 40,000 acres in Central Nebraska. These systems include a combination of gravity and pressurized deliveries and are under pressure as irrigators convert on-farm irrigation systems to groundwater sources.

The plan included identification and prioritization of canal infrastructure and water-conserving improvements, as well as mapping and other products.

The significant initial accomplishment included formulation of an overall vision for the canal system which would allow NPPD and irrigators to individually benefit from available grant and loan programs to make system improvements incrementally achieve NPPD and State water conservation goals.

Additionally, Aqua Engineering provided flow measurement of the North Platte Supply Canal to identify and quantify toe drain seepage.
